Gear

Globalization has brought some incredible gear to our shores recently. But just as holding a baseball doesn't make you a great pitcher, the great gear can not compensate for original ideas and hours of study. Most of the great music of the 20th century was recorded with lower fidelity than we can give your average garage band today.

Soundcraft Spirit FX-16

Sixteen great sounding preamps with "British" EQ, 100mm faders and onboard Lexicon effects make this the workhorse of the studio.

MOTU 24i

A 24 track, 24 bit soundcard. Hooked up to the Powermac G4 dual 450, it can record 24 tracks simultaneously.

CG200 Optical Compressor

This unit was designed by Rob's old bandmate who works for Carvin, Matt Otavka, a guitar virtuoso and electronic genius who plays in the band Mercury Legion.

Carvin's 2 CH Optical Compressor/Gate delivers the classic, distortion-free, studio sound that top engineers and musicians demand. Matt didn't skimp and use the typical VCA's that go into inexpensive compressors. The difference is easily audible.

Lexicon MPX-100

This is an incredible, realistic sounding reverb. 24 bit processing really makes a difference, without the harshness you get from many units.

Behringer T1953

An all tube 2 channel preamp from a company that seems bent on taking over the music equipment world. Great sound and quality.

RODE NT-1

This mic rocks! Nothing escapes it! Every vocal nuance will be captured. Large diaphragm condenser. Ugly to you, beautiful to us.

AKG C-1000

A small diaphragm condenser mic with a large number of uses. For live bands two of these are used for overheads. They also work well on acoustic guitar, banjo, sax and guitar cabinets.

AKG D112

No, it's not an alien lifeform, it's the AKG D112. In addition to looking cool, this is the mic for kick drum and bass cabinets.

Shure Sm-57

Shure shure, you've seen this dynamic mic before. We could run a studio with only this type of mic, but then what would we look at in the pro audio mags?

Sennheiser E-604

Drum Mic. Handles very high SPLs, and has a clear, balanced, low-distortion signal similar to a high-end studio condenser mic.

Octava MK-219

Russians like their mics like they like their guns- simple and deadly. I tell everyone who is interested to get one of these.

Yamaha NS-10M

Many monitors add an EQ boost. These are the standard reference monitors used in every major recording studio in the world. Very flat response. Very 80's look.

dBx 266 Compressor

The 266 is our favorite tool for bringing out clarity in the mix. Each channel has its own noise gate and can achieve a wide variety of sounds.
