What is a Stingaree?
The Stingaree was the name of San Diego's downtown area in the late 19th Century. Home to Wyatt Earp, hundreds of brothels, bars and opium dens, the Stingaree developed a reputation as a place to get Stung.
Did you really think they called it something as lame as The Gaslamp back then? Find out more about the history of San Diego here. |

Stingaree Recording & Design
Stingaree Recording & Design started out in the basement of the Granger building on 5th and Broadway as an 8-track analog studio. This basement was an interesting warren of passages, tunnels and stairs leading nowhere. The Stingaree studio of that time had a tunnel leading off of it under 5th Avenue, where it was mysteriously cut off by a cinder block wall. This spurned interest in the history of the area.
